PLANAR TASK, MODERNISTIC TASK LAMP
Minimal doesn’t always mean basic.  Slender in form, the proportions of our task lamp take inspiration from the compact nature of the LED module, Hikari SQ by Lightly Technologies which was used in this design.  The slim appearance of the light source is further reflected in the bespoke optical system which was in house developed by SDA and realised using Lux Imprints innovative 3D optic printing capabilities.  The unique design of the optic provides true control of the light, improving the visual comfort of the light source and the performance of the task lamp.

There is attraction in the uniformity of light produced by a planar source.  However, optical control is key in providing depth to the visual effect and performance of such a source.  Typically, conventional optical control for this form of flat light is limited in visual appeal and hinders the ability to differentiate a product.  Through the Planar Task luminaire, we have explored ways of changing this perception.  By utilising Lux Imprints technology, it was possible to quickly produce prototypes of our planar optic and prove the technical ability and visual impact of the design.  Technically, the hexagonal optical array provides the intended visual cut off.  Visually, the comfort of the source is improved upon.
