ROBUST AND DURABLE IP65 WIRELESS PIR
Working with LiteIP, SDA were tasked with developing a robust enclosure to house their newly developed wireless PIR detector with integrated daylight sensor and emergency battery charge indicator.  Primarily for warehousing and industrial applications, the product is designed for mounting to the luminaire side wall with an IP65 protection to the luminaire and sensor module. Considering both form and function, it was important to develop a solution that would not appear cumbersome in comparison to the mating luminaire, whilst ensuring the products durability in potentially harsh environments.  Central to the design process was the creation a watertight seal around the sensor head which would not involve a complex assembly of parts or impede the detection performance.

Early in the development, it was agreed that a co-moulded body and gasket would be most suited to this product allowing for a more compact design when compared to using a conventional gasketing method. It would also allow the creation of an innovative diaphragm gasket to seal around the PIR sensor. Whilst simple in appearance on the exterior, various clever functions are hidden within the housing.  Electronically, LiteIP push their innovation in wireless technologies by combining multiple luminaire functions into one device.  Mechanically, the co-moulded gasket and unique diaphragm seal ensures that what would normally be an assembly comprising multiple components is simplified into a single part.  The result is a reduction in assembly time and inventory and an innovative product.
